The Parent Committee for Troop 146 oversees the operations of the Troop and provides assistance and guidance to the Scoutmaster (SM) and Assistant Scoutmasters (ASMs) in carrying out Troop activities. The Troop Committee facilitates Boards of Review for rank advancements as deemed necessary by the SM. Three to six parents, who are not the SM or ASMs, sit on Boards of Review when the Scouts are up for rank advancement (excluding the rank of Eagle). The Boards of Review do not retest the Scout on rank skills; instead, the Board provides an opportunity to discuss with the Scout his scouting efforts, future aspirations, and goals. It is an excellent way for parents to become involved and learn more about the Scouts in the Troop and their scouting efforts (parents do not sit on Boards of Review for their own Scout).
The Troop Parent Committee, along with the SM, meets formally every month to discuss Troop activities, financial standing, and other items of business, and to provide approval for the Troop's activities when necessary. The Committee, through the Chair, assists the SM with requests for financial assistance for Summer Camp and Troop outings.
The Troop Parent Committee is always looking for volunteers and input by the parents of the Scouts in the Troop. Please do not hesitate to contact Troop Parent Committee Chair Mary Wilson at mdwilson.geo@gmail.com or 865.386.6548 with any suggestions, comments, or ideas for ways i you can assist the Troop.
